PATRIOTIC MUSIC 1
Text by Corky Cochran
Fellow Loadstarites: In times of
military conflict we have always had
music to show our support for the
fighting men and women overseas. Well
I just happen to have a few songs to
inspire America's patriotic spirit.
Songs that have helped this country
through past wars. This should get
your patriotic blood flowing!
Although I don't support the
current administration's views of the
threat that Iraq posed to America or
the world, I do support the troops
that have to follow their orders to
fight.
They are in harm's way not by
their choosing and face the daunting
task of cleaning up the mess that
President Bush the 1st left. Many have
died and more will surely die in the
months too come. My heart goes out to
those who have lost their loved ones
or are about to lose one.
Let these songs stand as a tribute
to these brave and overworked people,
as they try to do their jobs, and come
home to the families who love them so
dearly.
May America find a way to depose
tyrants without our troops dying
needlessly. I want to have an America
that the world holds in admiration not
contempt.
I have included two other songs:
one for our British and one for the
Australian comrades in arms. May they
come home safe and sound as well.
Our selections this time are the
following:
American Patrol
by F. W. Meacham
Caissons Go Rolling Along
by Edmund L. Gruber
Give Credit to the Navy
by Bud DeSylva, Gus Kahn, &
Albert Gumble
Liberty Bell
by Halsey K.Mohr & Joe Goodwin
It's A Long Way To Tipperary
by Harry Williams & Jack Judge
Waltzing Matilda
Australian Song
Keep The Homefires Burning
by Ed Moran & Harry von Tilzer
I have updated the words of some
of these songs to make them more
topical.
(The view below is mine and not those
of Loadstar or it publishers)
P.S. For anyone that may think I'm a
liberal or unpatriotic, boy did you
guess wrong. I have no political
party associations, so that I can
vote with my mind -- not because one
party believes their way is the only
way to view the world, or how we as
Americans should believe and vote.
That's a dictatorship not a
democracy, where people can respect
the views of others and disagree,
without being branded unpatriotic or a
traitor. I do not see respect in the
way the present administration is
treating those who question or
disagree with their concept of
America.

[DAVE'S AFTERWORDS:]
After I wrote that scalding Diskovery
article for 221, President Bush (II)
gave Saddam 48 hours to get out of
Dodge. I waited, knowing full well
Saddam would damned well stay put!
Then the bombs began to fall.
At that point, I put away my strong
opinions about the Administration, and
got 100% behind what would have to be
done. Like Corky, I will not confuse
my political opinions ([I] think they
are facts!) with patriotism. We will
take care of the Administration in
November 2004. But now it is time to
be an American!
I was draft fodder during the Vietnam
War. I took ROTC as a fair place to
hide, or perhaps get into a
non-combatant position. Like our
previous President, when my lottery
number came up 305, I took my uniform
in and withdrew from ROTC. OK, I was
scared. AND, I saw completely the
utter [wrongness] with that conflict.
We had no goal. We had no objective.
We were doing what the British were
doing in the Colonies in 1776 - 1782
-- fighting for a puppet government in
the face of a nationalistic
revolution. Calling it Communist did
not change at thing.
We flew boys to hill tops, traded 3 to
1 casualties with the VC (higher
according to the nightly body counts),
then flew our boys out again. It was
like trying to fight cockroaches by
stomping all you can see, then leaving
the house with the refridgerator door
open!
Well, that was a Democrat war. Now we
have Republican wars. Short. Fast.
Granada. Panama. Good practice --
Bomb-the-hell-out-of-them-first wars.
Clear goals. Objective objectives.
When we crossed a certain line in the
sand in 1991, we won. End of War.
As I write this, I hear on the news
that Iraq II is officially over. Now
we will see if we get bogged down in
occupation and supporting a puppet
government. As Schickelgrubber
learned, invasion (especially fast,
overpowering invasion) is easy.
Controling world politics is a tad
harder.
Enough.
[A Last Word] before this goes out the
door: WMD? What Weapons of Mass
Destruction?
